On Saturday, chef Laurent Tourondel opened BLT Steak on the Sunset Strip. This is the second New York-based steak house to arrive in West Hollywood in recent weeks; the One Group’s STK debuted last month.
Housed in the former Le Dôme space, the 3,800-square-foot restaurant features design by Michael Bagley and offers booth seating for 130 in the main dining room. The venue has a palette of earth tones, with Macassar ebony tables, caramel-colored banquettes, and walnut floors. Black-and-white prints of Hollywood icons dot the walls. A bar and lounge area seats 26, and a patio—with views of the Strip—holds 38. The private dining room (with a wine cellar) seats 20 and features a plasma TV, audiovisual capabilities, and DVD equipment, plus a customizable sound system. The menu offers a variety of cuts of beef, all of which are served in cast-iron pans. In addition, the French influence in Tourondel’s cooking shows up in such dishes as tuna tartare with avocado and soy-lime dressing, or popovers with bubbling Gruyère. A blackboard menu displays seasonal offerings from chef de cuisine Noah Rosen, and an extensive wine list includes 400 labels. The steak house will serve lunch beginning in late April.
