Consider these ideas for teambuilding activities, but know your audience: These are strictly for fearless adventure seekers.
1. Through Bootleg Canyon Flightlines, adventurous participants travel an engineered zipline, soaring as fast as 60 miles per hour over one and a half miles of desert terrain on Red Mountain in Boulder City, Nevada, with sheer drops and dramatic vistas. Guided tours start with a scenic van ride up the mountain. At the top, participants have about a 15-minute hike to the first platform, about 3,800 feet above sea level, looking down on all of Nevada. Groups can fly together, side by side, up to four at a time. Bootleg Canyon Flightlines is the only aerial trail system in Nevada, and trails include four different runs, each containing four lines ranging from 1,150 feet to 2,545 feet. Each tour lasts about two and a half hours. The aerial trail system does not create any carbon emissions, making the attraction eco-friendly, too. Group rates are offered and are currently being reworked, as the company has recently renegotiated its contract with Boulder City; check with the company for current rates.
2. Groups can check out the Hoover Dam from a whole new angle. In May, Papillon Airways Inc. launched its Hoover Dam helicopter tour, which departs daily from either its Las Vegas or Boulder City terminals. The tour flies low over the Hoover Dam in a high-end EC-130 Eco-Star helicopter, and participants can view the engineering marvel rising 726 feet from its foundation. The tour flies over Lake Mead, America’s largest man-made reservoir, the tributaries of the Colorado River, and Black Canyon before returning. The tour includes transfers to and from all major Las Vegas resorts. Tour duration is approximately 15 to 20 minutes without transfers, or two to two and a half hours with transfers. Prices are $99 per person from Boulder City, or $119 from Las Vegas.
