This Week: Club Launch and Katrina Relief Efforts

Metropolis Downtown, the 55,000-square-foot nightclub next to Nocturnal Miami, opens tonight. On Saturday, the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) celebrates its 10th anniversary in the Joan Lehman Building in North Miami with an exhibition featuring all the artists who have displayed their art at MOCA since 1996. Also Saturday is the International Aroid Society Show & Sale at the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. A variety of aroid plants will be sold in the garden house. On Saturday evening, the Morikami Museum & Japanese Gardens is hosting a fund-raising concert, Drumming Up Relief: Beating the Effects of Katrina, with proceeds going to the American Red Cross. Japanese drummers Fushu Daiko will perform two concerts, with a fireworks finale from Zambelli Fireworks Internationale. Other sponsors include Atlas Party Rental Inc., Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, Kirin Beer, Clear Channel Communications, and Weiser Security. On Sunday, Tuxedo Gourmet Catering Company is organizing the BBQ Bash at the Meyer Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach to benefit Katrina victims. All proceeds will go to the Salvation Army. Odd Man Out and the Curve will perform, along with other live entertainment. Fiesta Rentals, Florida Culinary Institute, the Palm Beach Post, and WLDI Wild 95.5 are a few of the sponsors.

Honorees include Walter Banks from the Lago Mar Resort & Club and Nicki Grossman of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau… Thursday, September 22, to Sunday, September 25: The 2005 Florida Lodging Association Annual Conference Business Market takes place at the Coronado Springs Resort in Walt Disney World. …Friday, Sept. 23: The Latin Business Club of America presents its fourth annual Awards of Excellence in the rotunda of the Omni Colonnade Hotel. Dinner and an awards ceremony will follow a silent auction. Dewar's 12 and Bacardi will provide cocktails. Sponsors include Eastern Financial Florida Credit Union, Dewar's 12, and LatinBiz magazine… The 10th annual Epcot International Food and Wine Festival begins on September 23 and lasts through November 13. This year, the six-week festival will feature over 1,200 complimentary wine and beer seminars… Wednesday, Sept. 28: Animal Fair magazine is hosting a "Yappy Hour" event at the Mayfair Hotel & Spa in Coconut Grove to benefit the Humane Society of Greater Miami and Adopt-A-Pet. September 29 through October 2: The Amelia Island Book Festival will feature four days of book signings, luncheons, and special events in Fernandina Beach.
