Madiba Miami is a bilevel restaurant in the Sunset Harbor area of South Beach offering an authentic South African experience. Chefs Mark and Jenny Henegan opened the first Madiba in Brooklyn, New York. In September they unveiled the Miami Beach location, designed with the ambience of South African social halls known as shebeens. Madiba offers three bars and four areas with separate entrances for private functions. Boma, the main dining room, is located on the second level and seats 80 amid a blend of Pennsylvania Dutch furniture and rustic American accents. Down the hall, the lapa, or private chef's table, seats 25. The downstairs lounge, indaba, Zulu for private gathering place, is just that—a hip, cozy space with white leather chairs and day beds with safari and Indian decor that seats 100. A separate lounge with dance floor accommodates an additional 100 guests. Madiba's cuisine is as eclectic as its style, featuring Portuguese, Mediterranean, East Indian, Dutch, and Zulu-inspired dishes. A small upstairs boutique offers South African crafts plus food and beverage products. Catering menus can be customized for any event. —Vanessa Goyanes
