Now that the West Palm Beach County Commissioner has awarded the scandal-recovering CVB a $9.9-million, five-year contract to continue promoting the county's tourism and meeting industry, the company has started making changes. (For those not following the news, their former C.E.O., Warren "Mac" McLaughlin, resigned earlier this year amid a $1.6-million embezzlement scandal.) The first change was the hiring of Jorge Pesquera as the new president and C.E.O., starting November 1. The CVB also began a new advertising campaign—which has already been dubbed one of its best in years—to attract more group and convention business to the city. More stringent oversight committees and auditing procedures have also been set for the bureau, while its board of directors has been downsized.
