The Epic Hotel downtown closed its doors Friday following an advisory from the Miami-Dade County Health Department that the propertyβs water was contaminated. According to the advisory, the chlorine levels in the property's water are not high enough to prevent the growth of bacteria.
The hotel issued a press release that day announcing its efforts to work with the health department to eradicate the problem and has since relocated its approximately 400 guests to area hotels.
One death from Legionnaireβs diseaseβa rare form of pneumonia that infects the lungs and is transmitted through waterβand another case of illness since October have been linked to the hotelβs water, according to NBCMiami.com.
No date has been announced for the propertyβs reopening.
