VENUE: A Midtown Spot Fit for a Monarch

E770disc 01 0305 Venue Villardhouse 1 152
It may seem like all new Manhattan lounges use the same modern furniture, neutral backgrounds, votive candles and other minimalist touches. But the new Villard Bar and Lounge inside the New York Palace eschews all of this, opting for historical elegance and luxury instead. The recently restored space includes touches from as far back as 1882, including original Tiffany windows and gold-leafed ceilings and chandeliers. Above the first floor's luxe lounge space, the second floor party rooms include the Lavender Room (shown at left), with its Egyptian and Asian-influenced decor, and the adjacent Red Room, which boasts sumptuous red velvet banquettes and chairs. The entire second floor includes its own rest rooms and a private entrance, and has a maximum capacity of 70. How much does all of this luxury cost, you wonder? Renting the second floor, with hors d'oeuvres catering and drinks, will set you back about $15,000 for two hours.
