Tina Brown's Party Gossip

Posted 07.17.01
The hullabaloo among media gossips over Judy Bachrach's book about publishing power couple Tina Brown and Harold Evans includes more than a few comments about the importance of duo's parties in their success (and, some say, their demise). In his New York magazine column, Michael Wolff lists the rules learned from the book, including "Learn how to give a party (which is different from learning how to party)," "Cultivate the press...best done by throwing parties" and "Get to know some celebrities...and invite them to your parties." He also passes judgment on Brown's legendary launch party for Talk magazine (which she reportedly considers a triumph): "You don't throw the party of the century...to launch a fledgling magazine--I mean anybody who knows anything knows about managing expectations."

Elsewhere, Inside.com's index of Bachrach's book calls Robert Isabell "Tina's flower boy." She insisted that he do her events, including her stint hosting the Environmental Media Awards. ''For her it just had to be glamorous and Robert was the component that brought glamour to it," a Vanity Fair staffer told the site.
