Grammys Could Return to NYC

With Rudolph Giuliani out of City Hall, could the Grammy awards come back to New York? The former mayor famously feuded with Michael Greene, the president and chief executive of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, who hasn't held the awards in New York City since 1998. (This year's awards will be held in Los Angeles' Staples Center on February 27.) Greene told The New York Times that he and Giuliani have reconciled, and that "Giuliani was never the reason we weren't back there." The real problem (he says now): Producing the show in New York costs $2 million more than producing it in Los Angeles at the Staples Center, which the academy helped design. But Green said he has spoken with reps at Madison Square Garden about possibly bringing the Grammys to New York in 2003.
