Andre Balazs, owner of hotel hotspots like the Chateau Marmont in Hollywood and the Mercer Hotel in SoHo, celebrated the opening of his latest hotel, the Downtown L.A. Standard, with a slumber party for 200 of New York and L.A.'s young, rich and famous. The bash "owed a certain debt to the over-the-top entertaining of the 80's, when Mr. Balazs was a New York night-life entrepreneur," according to The New York Times. The party gave free room stays to guests, and enticed them to other areas of the hotel with a lingerie fashion show, a performance artist showcase, a rooftop party, food, drinks and dancing. Hotel chef Marc Urwand (formerly of Jean-Georges) offered partiers lobster and sea scallop ceviche shooters and watermelon cubes stuffed with goat cheese to accompany their drinks, and in the morning, breakfast consisted of Krispy Kreme donuts, bagels and lox, brioche and French toast. Among the revelers: Sofia and Roman Coppola, Tatiana von Furstenberg, Zoe Cassavetes, Tobey Maguire, Leonardo DiCaprio, Billy Zane and Portia de Rossi.
