Bloomberg's Packed Nightlife Schedule

Getting Rudy Giuliani to an event was no easy feat, especially after the September 11 attacks, and getting Mayor Mike Bloomberg to show at your event isn't necessarily any easier. Although Bloomberg keeps an especially busy nightlife schedule, he also declines many offers to appear. According to a story in The New York Times, "On any given night of the week, he races between events—sometimes four to an evening with a costume change—and then to dinnner with people he feels contributes to the city. Many of these outings are strictly mayoral—presenting a proclamiation at the New York Is Book Country reception, for example—while others are for groups...like arts philanthropies."

The Mayor's office gets dozens of requests from groups wanting him to appear, and his office weighs each request "seeking a mix of organizations, but often favoring charitable groups the mayor supported in the years at Bloomberg L.P.," the paper reports.
