The Times Comes Out Against Stadium

While the seemingly never-ending West Side development debate plods along, The New York Times weighed in with an editorial opposing the stadium on the grounds that public money should not be used to build it—and that the proposed architecture is ugly anyway. “As a piece of architecture, it would be clunky and unattractive,” the editorial argues. “The tract of land along the Hudson River where the Jets want to build is a site of extraordinary potential. We don’t believe that a stadium would be its optimal and best use … A mixed-use redevelopment of the proposed site, including residential and commercial projects, would provide a better return for the city.”
