News Flash: Publicists Crack on Grubman

Finally! People are saying mean things about Lizzie Grubman. OK, maybe that’s not new, but Women’s Wear Daily got some cutting comments from other PR pros about Grubman’s low-rated MTV reality show, PoweR Girls, which took viewers behind the scenes at her events and had its first-season finale last week. “I think the problem is that they cleaned her up,” Nadine Johnson said. “They obviously hired a diction coach to get rid of her ‘New Yawk’ accent, and now she sounds like an old socialite. It’s no fun.”

From Bobby Zarem: “The young girls that do parties today have not realized that this is just a tiny part of what a PR campaign has to be…I don’t dislike Lizzie, but throwing a party for Ja Rule’s album is not the thing that makes him go to number one.”

Others didn’t want to be named in the story, but offered their take on their competitor’s tactics. “You don’t trash people who come to your events,” a competitor said of Grubman’s pitching a nasty item to Page Six about Lindsay Lohan. “It’s a fireable offense. She should have learned that in PR 101.” And our favorite: “My assistant says, ‘It’s an embarrassment to our entire industry.’ Don’t quote me!”
