Morgan Library to Get New Look, Event Space

When the Pierpont Morgan Library reopens next spring after a $102 million renovation, it hopes to achieve a new image as well as a new look, The New York Times reports. In an effort to develop a reputation as a museum of rare books and manuscripts as well as an ordinary library, the Morgan is launching an aggressive PR and advertising campaign. The new library will have a central court similar to an Italian piazza, as well as 75 percent more exhibition space. Underground, it will also feature a 280-seat hall 65 feet beneath the sidewalk for events.
