This Week: Music, Mermaids, and Gay Pride

Tomorrow night, the Public Art Fund screens 9 Drawings for Projection by artist William Kentridge—animated short films accompanied by live music—in Prospect Park’s bandshell. The piece will be shown again on Monday in Central Park’s bandshell. On Friday, the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ Fund Raising Day in New York conference comes to the Marriott Marquis.

Tap City—the New York City Tap Festival kicks off Saturday and continues through July 3, with performances at the Joyce Theater. Also on Saturday the Caramoor International Music Festival begins at the Caramoor estate in Westchester, with classical, cabaret, opera, and jazz performances through August 13. And the Mermaid Parade—the annual procession of outrageous floats and costumed revelers—takes over Coney Island on Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday, the focus shifts back to Manhattan, as rainbow flags flutter for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride March. Meanwhile, at the Javits Center, Bartender magazine’s International Bar Show starts up; the expo lasts through Monday.

Tuesday, techies flock to the C3 Corporate & Channel Computing Expo at the Javits Center, which runs until Thursday. Direct Marketing Days also runs there Tuesday through Thursday. The Film Society of Lincoln Center’s Young Friends of Film holds its Honors benefit on Tuesday night. The organization fetes actor and director Campbell Scott with a screening of his new film The Dying Gaul at the Walter Reade Theater and a reception at the Stanley Kaplan Penthouse.
