At the unofficial end of summer, the event industry remains pretty quiet. As the hoopla in Queens continues for the U.S. Open (tennis matches continue through September 11 at the USTA National Tennis Center), Thursday night at Frederick’s Trump World International magazine sponsors a Grand Slam Evening party with tennis pro Guillermo Vilas to celebrate Argentina’s U.S. Open players. Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts’ Out of Doors festival comes to a close on Sunday with the Roots of American Music lineup in Damrosch Park.
Monday is Labor Day, when the West Indian-American Day Carnival parades down Brooklyn’s Eastern Parkway. Tuesday at Grand Central Terminal, National Geographic magazine celebrates its special Africa issue with the Experience Africa promotion—a weeklong event that includes a photography exhibition; it runs through September 10.
