It looks like Fashion Week won’t get booted from Bryant Park just yet. Women’s Wear Daily reported on Friday that IMG’s tents will go up again in February, but they will probably be forced to relocate after that. Mayor Michael Bloomberg had to get involved to keep the shows in the park for another season after the Bryant Park Corporation, which operates the park, said it would prefer to extend its ice skating rink through February.
The park group still wants the semiannual fashion festival out. And with the tents now taking up about two acres—and outgrowing the park—finding an alternative venue is proving quite difficult. (The footprint of Lincoln Center, the most frequently sited alternative is 35 percent smaller.) But at least the industry now has more time to come up with more options.
