Events Are Going for Gold

For whatever reason, these days gold tones are, as they say, hot. Last Thursday even brought two different gold-theme events: Donna Karan launched her new fragrance, called (what else?) Gold, at her Madison Avenue boutique. And the Metropolitan Pavilion promoted its new space—it’s called the Level, and it features golden-tone oak wood floors—for event planners.

Production company SC3 Group worked on both events, putting together an evening rich with the designer’s signature gold and black touches for Karan, and bringing golden cocktail tables to the Metropolitan Pavilion, as well as a 24-foot-long communal table with a gold leaf top from the company’s Studio 3 rental division. Thomas Preti Caterers served golden elements at the industry showcase, such as golden delicious apple latkes, tarts with roasted golden beets, opera cakes with gold leaf garnish, as well as chocolate caramel tarts dusted with gold leaf. Director of sales and creative services Shelly Taggar at the Metropolitan Pavilion worked with Scharff Weisberg and SC3 to create gold-inspired projections of lava and fire.

To get some golden inspiration of your own, head to the American Museum of Natural History next month, when the “Gold” exhibition kicks off, with displays that include gold bars, nuggets, and jewelry and coins from antiquity.
