Trotting the Globe (Parties)

Per usual, tongues are wagging about last night’s Golden Globe events and festivities. As our own reporters’ takes are trickling in, here’s what others are saying:

The New York Times’ Carpetbagger blog reports the eco-friendly E!/Environmental Media Association bash “had all the ambience of a meat locker.”

The Associated Press via The New York Daily News concurs, noting the event’s organic pizza, recycled paper products, and guests being “blasted by cold air.” (More here.)

Also from the AP, E! and the EMA weren’t the only ones affected by the downright chilly L.A. temps; the poolside (yikes!) HBO after-party, which sported an orange theme, found guests huddled up to those huge patio heat lamps. (Good thing ravioli and mashed potatoes were available inside…and that there was an inside.)

20th Century Fox doled out spinach and mushroom quiches at the post-awards celebration, while NBC Universal served ice cream as the crowd grooved to DJ-spun hip-hop. (Apparently the latter’s frozen desert may have been just what attendees needed; the AP reports that the affair got so hot that Donald Trump left 10 minutes after arriving. Oh well…)

Over at CNN’s blog, Sibila Vargas flipped for the In Style and Warner Brothers chocolate-fest, writing, “Talk about decadence. There is a floor-to-ceiling chocolate lounge. That’s right—a lounge made out of chocolate.” (She also dutifully points out that the host companies and CNN share the same parent company, Time Warner.)

With all the post-Globes event coverage, HBO still managed to get some ink for its annual preshow party at the Chateau Marmont. The Los Angeles Times’ Elizabeth Snead’s “Styles & Scenes” blog reports a “too crowded dance floor” and has a shot of Saturday’s party in progress.

And now, this from The Daily News’ Ben Widdicombe on servers at Golden Globe events: “All the waitresses look like Kelly Clarkson.” Thanks, Ben.
