On April 23, at Abigail Kirsch's Pier 60 on Manhattan's Chelsea Piers, the Food Bank For New York City held its annual "Can-Do" Awards Gala Dinner to recognize that everyone can do something to end hunger. The nation's leading wine and spirits distributor, Southern Wine & Spirits of America, a company based in North Miami, was among this year's recipients. With a 40-year tradition of charitable giving in the 27 states where it conducts business, the company has deeply ingrained its philosophy of community giving on all its employees in both the corporate and state divisions. As a result, the company now has a brand-new medal to show for its hunger-relief efforts, as do the other recipients, including U2's The Edge, Jimmy Fallon, Credit Suisse, Time Out New York, and Project Hospitality.
