New Museum Announces Opening Date

The New Museum of Contemporary Art, which broke ground at a Lower East Side site in fall 2005, will unveil its new 60,000-square-foot home to the public in December. Sponsored by Target, the museum will offer 30 hours of free access—starting at noon on December 1—to tour the space and view the inaugural exhibition, "Unmonumental: The Object in the 21st Century."

In addition to column-free galleries, the blocky, seven-story structure on the Bowery will house a variety of areas for events, available to corporate members. Among them are a multipurpose space on the top floor with a warming kitchen, an adjoining terrace, and a 180-seat theater.
