\"Stand Up for Heroes\" Returns With Regis Philbin

After a successful debut in 2007, comedy benefit “Stand Up for Heroes” will return to Town Hall on November 5. The evening aims to raise money and awareness (and spirits) for the Bob Woodruff Family Fund, which benefits injured service members.

This year’s lineup of performers includes Ricky Gervais, Bruce Springsteen, and auctioneer Whoopi Goldberg. The New York Post reported this morning that Regis Philbin will take over hosting duties from last year’s M.C., Conan O’Brien.

Bob Woodruff, who was severely injured in 2006 when reporting for ABC News in Iraq, and his wife, Lee, have dedicated themselves to supporting members of the armed forces in the last two years. Lee serves as one of the event's producers, and the benefit committee reads like a who’s who in broadcast journalism, with people like Christiane Amanpour, Charlie Gibson, and Tom Brokaw involved. Organizers said last year’s event raised more than $2.5 million.
