The New York premiere of Oliver Stone’s presidential biopic, W., was held at the Ziegfeld Theater last night. According to The New York Daily News, Stone extended personal invitations to Republican presidential and vice presidential nominees John McCain and Sarah Palin yesterday morning, but the two declined in favor of a planned fund-raiser.
But John McCain couldn’t entirely escape the shadow of the unflattering portrait of current president and fellow party member George W. Bush. The Arizona Senator was staying at the Hilton Hotel, just across the street. When he walked outside to his motorcade, he briefly encountered the premiere’s red carpet before hopping in his car. The Examiner reports that some of the film’s stars had less than favorable things to say about McCain and the situation, including Richard Dreyfuss, who said he would “not welcome” the senator if he showed up at the party.
