Among the dozens of institutions currently renovating, expanding, and being built in the city is the Museum of Chinese in America. Formerly located on Mulberry Street, this venue dedicated to the history of Chinese Americans recently opened its new Maya Lin-designed facility on Centre Street for previews every Thursday. The museum won't officially open until Tuesday, September 22, and the facility is still finalizing the policies for event rental.
Inside an old machine repair shop in Little Italy, the new building is much larger than the old location—14,000 square feet compared with the 2,000-square-foot space in Chinatown—and includes galleries, a two-story interior courtyard, and a multipurpose screening room.
