June 7, 2013: BET Awards App Adds Gaming Elements, Shopping Tips for Summer Entertaining Accessories, More I.R.S. Conference Scandal Details

1. EVENT PLANNERS PAID FOR BOOZE AT I.R.S. CONFERENCE: More details are emerging about the 2010 I.R.S. conference in California that now is under a congressional microscope. At a cocktail party at the Anaheim Marriott, it appears the event planners requested that the charges for alcohol be separated from their official bill. Buzzfeed: "Although the two men, Frederick Schindler and Donald Toda, appear to have paid for it themselves rather than charging the government, congressional aides said documents obtained as part of an investigation into the I.R.S. appear to show an effort to hide the expenses from the government." http://bit.ly/14AX6AP

2. SHOPPING TIPS FOR SUMMER ENTERTAINING ACCESSORIES: Event designer Bronson van Wyck went shopping for outdoor entertaining accessories with The New York Times, looking at items such as colorful paper lanterns and a lobster-shaped bottle opener. "For a casual outdoor party, he favors things that 'straddle formal and informal,' he said. 'Either a formal item done in a relaxed way or a relaxed item done in a way that elevates its level of chic.'” http://nyti.ms/13caewX
