In preparation for its 35th anniversary later this month, New York magazine held a party for media buyers and advertising execs at Serena, and caterer Serena Bass created a menu of nibblies inspired by the mag's past covers. For an ode to Studio 54, crab balls came out on mirrored trays scattered with white powder, a razor and rolled up piece of paper. And mini hot dogs on wooden trays lined with Astro Turf gave a nod to the Yankees' baseball dynasty.
The busty Anna Nicole Smith was symbolized by pairs of cupcakes topped with strategically placed cherries served on a fur-lined tray. Bass also served blue Prozac Nation cocktails and pastrami sandwiches meant to represent Miramax honcho Harvey Weinstein. And "Brat Pack burgers" were served a red-and-white gingham cloth that matched the photo for a cover story on 80's actors.
