Splashlight, the photo studio and event space near the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, debuted its downtown location last Tuesday with an exhibition from photographer Peter Ruprecht. Splashlight SoHo is now the headquarters for the company and features four studios for events. The third-floor, 60,000-square-foot facility is located in a triangular building at the west end of Canal Street and also includes private studios for the company's clients, a day rental studio for shoots, and an on-site café called Eet.
The biggest studio, a 3,000-square-foot space called Double Exposure, sits in the southeast corner of the building and features windows on two sides, 13-foot ceilings, a 22- by 24-foot cyclorama, a 200-amp dedicated power supply, and a private bathroom. Connected to this room via double doors is the 2,300-square-foot Cove. Combined, the two rooms total 5,300 square feet of space.
Along the south-facing side of the venue are studios Runway 1 and Runway 2, which are 2,500 square feet and 2,800 square feet, respectively. Each of these spaces has its own private bathroom and power supply as well as cycloramas. When combined, these two rooms, a back stage area, and Double Exposure compose 9,600 square feet of space. Large events that take over the entire space can also make use of the reception area.
