March 13, 2015: Andy Samberg to Host Emmys, SXSW Announces Ban on Drones, Officials Invite Rowdy Soccer Fans to Visit Museums

1. ANDY SAMBERG TO HOST EMMYS: Fox announced that Andy Samberg, star of its show Brooklyn Nine-Nine and a former Saturday Night Live cast member, will host the Primetime Emmy Awards. The show, which airs in September, will be the actor’s first hosting gig. Hollywood Reporter: “Samberg isn't a stranger to awards shows. He joined Lonely Island collaborators Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer in an Oscars performance just last month. He also took home a 2014 Golden Globe for his work on Brooklyn and, of course, nabbed an Emmy for himself for writing Saturday Night Live tune ‘Dick in a Box.’” http://bit.ly/1GK2o4I

2. SXSW ANNOUNCES BAN ON DRONES: Less that two days before the start of South by Southwest, marketers learned that drones would be banned from the event. Adweek: "This policy was established after consultation with drone experts, user groups, municipal authorities and aviation safety experts," read a SXSW statement. "While SXSW may make exceptions to this policy if the drones are used within certain trade show areas where safety measures such as tethering to the ground are implemented, the airwaves and/or frequency spectrums generally used in the remote control of drones are too congested during the SXSW event to ensure operation safe from interference." http://bit.ly/1NPO8JH

3. OFFICIALS INVITE ROWDY SOCCER FANS TO VISIT MUSEUMS: Hoping to stave off rioting from unruly soccer fans, the mayors of Florence and Rome are offering soccer fans in town for Europa League soccer matches the chance to visit several city museums for free. BBC: “The move comes weeks after visiting Feyenoord fans clashed with riot police in central Rome, causing damage to a 17th Century Baroque fountain in the city's famous Piazza di Spagna and leaving the area littered with broken beer bottles.” http://bbc.in/18GtFX4
