Chocolate Grape, a European-style café offering creative pairings of chocolate and wine, opened in Wicker Park this week. With traditional-looking dark woods, hand-blown glass lamps, Victorian-style couch and chairs, and a stained-glass panel salvaged from a Chicago church, Chocolate Grape offers a warm atmosphere for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert. The menu is divided into day and evening options, including soups, salads, and sandwiches for lunch and petite appetizer plates and cheese and meat platters for dinner. A pastry case displays muffins, scones, breads, and cakes, as well as Chocolate Grape's selection of handmade truffles, which are also available in gift boxes. The wine list includes reds, whites, sparkling, and dessert varietals.
The venue's main room, which can accommodate 40 people, is adjoined by the Truffle Box, a private event space that can host 35. Sectioned off by French doors, the Truffle Box has several café tables, as well as a private bathroom and a plasma TV outfitted with a sound system, DVD player, and iPod dock. Custom menus are available, and there is no rental fee for the room. Chocolate Grape also offers catering services.
