Starchefs.com Names L.A.’s Rising Stars

Starchefs.com, a magazine for culinary insiders, announced its top Southern California chefs at the 2006 Los Angeles Rising Stars Revue at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel on May 16. Antoinette Bruno, C.E.O. and editor in chief of Starchefs.com, and host chef Gregg Wangard welcomed local vanguards of the contemporary American dining scene, in addition to food and wine enthusiasts and industry professionals at the hotel’s Arcadia ballroom for a tasting. The Hunter Perrin Group, with Io Perry on vocals, performed for the crowd.

After a V.I.P. reception featuring Tsar Nicoulai caviar and 1996 Palmes d’Or Champagne by Nicolas Feuillatte, the crowd headed to the second-floor ballroom where each Rising Star chef prepared two dishes for guests. Featured chefs included Jill Davie from Josie, Lee Gross from M Café de Chaya, Sean Hardy from the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills, Mohammad Islam from Chateau Marmont, Ludovic Lefebvre from Bastide, David Lefevre from Water Grill, James Richardson from Nook Bistro, Jason Travi from La Terza, Gregg Wangard from Ocean & Vine, and pastry chefs Elizabeth Belkind from Grace, Kristy Choo from Jin Patisserie, and Ron Mendoza from Ortolan. Rising Star bar chef Vincenzo Marianella from Providence prepared cocktails, and Wilshire sommelier Matthew Strauss selected wines to go with everyone’s dishes. Starchefs.com events manager Jessica Acree worked with publicist Kara Slife from Slife PR and Loews publicist Rosalind Napoli to coordinate the event.
