July 24, 2013: Fashion Debuts Fall Ads on Instagram, Barclays Is Top Concert Venue, Taco Bell Drops Kids' Meals

1. BARCLAYS CENTER TOP-GROSSING CONCERT VENUE: Brooklyn’s Barclays Center is the highest-grossing venue in the United States for concerts and family shows, surpassing Madison Square Garden. New York Post: "[Barclays], which opened in September, raked in $46.9 million in ticket revenue for top acts such as the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Rihanna, and Justin Bieber, according to Billboard magazine. That cash haul topped the $39.5 million in event-ticket sales for the nation’s No. 2 venue, Madison Square Garden, Billboard said. One expert attributed Barclays’ revenue ranking to its novelty and to its location among the hipsters in Brooklyn. … He also noted that the Garden has been under renovation, which may have affected its revenue." http://bit.ly/1646IZ8

2. FASHION TURNS TO INSTAGRAM TO DEBUT FALL ADS: Under username OscarPRGirl, Oscar de la Renta will debut its fall ad campaign on Instagram instead of in the September issue of a glossy magazine. Women's Wear Daily: "It’s an early test on the part of de la Renta — and another sign of how the digital world, and Instagram’s photo and video sharing platform in particular, are impacting the way fashion brands reach consumers. … Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, has quickly become a favorite of fashion brands accustomed to connecting with consumers visually." http://bit.ly/142Oauj

3. TACO BELL DROPS KIDS' MEALS: Taco Bell will discontinue its kids' meals and toys, moving kids' offerings such as the crunchy taco to the standard menu. Los Angeles Times: "American consumers have been losing interest in kids' meals for years, according to research from the NPD Group. Young diners have increasingly sophisticated palates and are more open to healthful foods, according to researchers." http://lat.ms/13cxvy1
