What do you get when you pair an up-and-coming celebrity chef with one of New York's preeminent restaurant designers? You get Town, a new restaurant that will open to the public on March 14. Located inside the brand-new Chambers Hotel, the David Rockwell-designed restaurant is owned by Geoffrey Zakarian, formerly of Patroon and 44 at the Royalton. In
his first post as executive chef and owner, Zakarian will serve what his press materials call "updates of New York favorites."
The restaurant's launch party was filled with chic, black-clad young professionals downing cosmopolitans and beer and grabbing at the few trays of hors d'oeuvres that emerged from the kitchen. The crowd overflowed into the hotel lobby and kitchen, where well-wishers hung out with the chef and wait staff.
Scaling two levels, the interior of the restaurant exudes warmth with its rich wood walls and glowing lights. Other elegant decor touches include white tulips along a mirrored wall, vases of tall cherry blossom branches behind the banquettes, and backlit wood panels, which kept the dining room's surroundings sparse without being bare. Despite the 24-foot high ceilings, the restaurant's cozy atmosphere almost makes you forget you're in a restaurant.
