It could be the remaking of an icon: Sean "Puffy" (or P-Diddy, depending on who you ask) Combs hosted a fab bash at the Sea Grill and Ice Rink at Rockefeller Center to celebrate the holidays and get some press for his new boys' clothing line, Sean John Boys. After his acquittal of weapons possession and bribery charges in March and his very public split from Jennifer Lopez, posing for pics with a horde of adoring kids might have been just the kind of good PR that Puffy needs.
Produced by Paul Wilmot Communications and co-sponsored by Vibe magazine, the event closed out the entire restaurant and ice rink for approximately 500 of Puffy's friends, family members, employees and their kids. For the kids' dinner, the Sea Grill provided hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, tater tots, mozzarella sticks, fruit juice and Yoo-Hoo (nothing like getting the kids loaded with grease and sugar and sticking them in ice skates). DJ Beverly Bond spun her always-festive and hip mix of party music outside of the rink for the skaters, and the music was wired into the restaurant by Caramel Sound, Music and Lights.
When the guest of honor arrived, he was quickly spirited into the V.I.P. room by his entourage and the security team from Mike Zimet Enterprises. Minutes later, girl-group Dream (who recently performed at Pencil's annual benefit) introduced Puffy to the crowd of guests and onlookers who watched from the plaza. He took to the staircase platform opposite the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, and presented a $5,000 check to the Brotherhood/Sister Sol Foundation, a nonprofit that provides support programs to inner-city black and Latino youths. After he offered everyone Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa wishes, Puffy took to the ice (sans skates), and a swarming mob of kids and paparazzi followed as he glided around, posing for pictures with kids and signing autographs while the Boys Choir of Harlem performed a slate of Christmas songs.
