We've seen our share of silent auction tables, and these were some of the most beautiful: For a party to promote House & Garden's Color Issue, Anderson Hannant's Frederick Anderson used—fancy this—bright colors to organize and group products donated by advertisers to raise money for six nonprofits.
Taking inspiration from a section of the H&G issue that featured products in the colors of blueberries, .phpberries, strawberries and blackberries, Anderson divided the room into three fruit-flavored areas: One section had blueberries in vases decorating blue tables with matching blue merchandise like Guzzini salad bowls and Ralph Lauren paint chips. The .phpberry/strawberry area had red roses in vases filled with strawberries and items like a Peacock Alley scarlet floral duvet set. And the blackberry section had violet votives and a purple Dyson vacuum.
In another cool, modern touch—matching the clean look of the venue, Splashlight Studios—the tables themselves were suspended from the ceiling by cables (Anderson added columns below the tables to give them extra support after someone got nervous they might sway as guests leaned down to bid on the merchandise).
To tie the food with the decor theme, Match Catering and Eventstyles served blueberry, grape and .phpberry martinis and passed hors d'oeuvres like rock shrimp quesadillas with three-berry salsa, grilled pork tenderloin with blueberry onion dipping sauce and Vietnamese summer rolls with strawberry mint salsa, all on colored trays that matched the decor.
Planned by H&G special events director Molly Deegan, the event made great use of paint cans covered in custom-made labels that matched the special issue's cover and the event's invitation. Purchased from Janovic for $2.50 a piece, the cans lined the Splashlight entrance and served as oh-so-appropriate gift containers.
