It wouldn't be summer in the city if New Yorkers didn't open the newspaper on Monday to read about all the Hamptons parties to which they probably weren't invited. Thanks to an estate sponsored by PlayStation 2, the proletariat missed three big ones underwritten by the gaming company during the July 4 weekend: Paris Hilton's pink-themed launch of her label, Heiress Records; Jay-Z's blue-themed debut of his S. Carter tennis shoe; and P. Diddy's white-themed launch of voting nonprofit organization Citizen Change. (It all begs the question: Hip-hop impresario, solicitous party host, marathon runner, democratic process activist—what will Diddy do next? And why does Paris Hilton need a record label?)
The Strategic Group handled event production and management for all events with Sony Computer Entertainment America PR director Molly Smith; Heiress producer Rob Boldt; Jay-Z's manager, John Meneilly; and Bad Boy Records' executive vice president Phil Robinson.
At Paris' pink party, girly touches reigned: pink sheer fabrics, pink rock candy, pink cocktails, pink PlayStation-branded pillows and pink marshmallows for roasting. "Everything was very feminine," said Strategic's Tony Berger. "It was somewhat kitschy but also glamorous."
Jay-Z's blue party had a country club feel, to play off the classic design of his new tennis shoe, which is white with blue piping. The wait staff wore white tennis skirts with white PlayStation2 T-shirts and served food from Parties to Go using tennis rackets as serving trays. Strategic put up a tennis net over the estate's pool and displayed tennis shoes in tennis ball hoppers.
The 800 guests of P. Diddy's white party wore exclusively white—the invitation warned they'd be turned away for egregious violations like stripes, or off-white or tan clothing—to complement the event's all-white decor. Parties to Go erected a 9,000-square-foot Saddle Span tent by Tentnology , a massive clear-span structure shaped—as you might expect—like a saddle, with a 16-foot square stage in the center. A troupe of poets called Declare Yourself read a slam poetry version of the Declaration of Independence, before P. Diddy got on the mic to introduce his new nonprofit.
During the day, the PlayStation estate was a destination for activities like volleyball, badminton, canoeing, and lounging in PlayStation cabanas designed and built by Strategic for overnight guests who, we're told, included Paris Hilton—and presumably boyfriend Nick Carter, with whom she publicly behaved very naughtily to the delight of the paparazzi.

A Hamptons mansion taken over by PlayStation 2 hosted three events during the July 4 weekend. The afternoon before a blue-themed launch party for Jay-Z's new tennis shoe, guests lounged in the pool with blue cocktails.

The launch of Paris Hilton's label, Heiress Records, had a pink theme with abundant pink decor, cocktails and food by Parties to Go.

The Strategic Group designed and built PlayStation-branded cabanas for the weekend-long festivities.
