Underwear Launch Has (Gasp!) Lots of Skin

August 4, 2004
Everything about the launch of C-IN2, the new men's underwear and swimwear line from 2(x)ist founder Greg Sovell, exuded summer and sex. Spanning two penthouses and the roof of Sky Studios, the event featured minimal décor; instead, planner Maile Zambuto (wife of C-IN2 co-founder Jason Zambuto) emphasized the products by dressing male models working as waiters, bartenders and live mannequins at a Manhattan pool party. (The implied lesson: If you have enough young, firm bodies, who needs hydrangea?)
On their way in to the party, guests encountered a reenactment of the new brand's ads by photographer Steven Klein, which feature men on the street in tight white underwear being cuffed by cops. And inside the studio's upper penthouse, flood lighting created the ambience of a traditional photo shoot, with spotlights on oversized ads and nearly naked models posing on white cubed podiums.

More models—male and female—posed in the venue's various spaces: in undies on large cushions in a dimly lit Moroccan-themed room, in C-IN2 swimwear on the deck of (and inside) the heated pool. And, naturally, the hors d'oeuvres from R Cano Events were served by models from T&L Event Management in C-IN2 underwear and swimsuits. (For those with their eyes on the food, the menu included peekytoe crab Napoleons with avocado mousse and zucchini cakes with melted Brie. Summer soup shooters served in tall shot glasses were offered in either cassava melon with Muscat syrup, sour cherry with honey mascarpone or iced sun melon with mint leaves.)

Among the non-model decor elements: Tropical palms, unobtrusive Christmas lights and chartreuse votive candles in cracked-glass hurricane lanterns decorated the low brick walls around the garden of the outdoor terrace. Guests lounged on cushy ottomans and pillows upholstered with original fabric from the swimwear line in C-IN2's signature color, chartreuse.

Later in the evening, white floodlights were abandoned for color-changing lights and the music of DJ Carlos Pertuz, and models danced atop their platforms, while waiters served small plates of food, including an avocado and hearts of palm salad in martini glasses and mini hamburgers and cheeseburgers served with French fries.

'Our leadership and board worked very, very hard to get us across the finish line, and it was a beautiful moment.”
