A massive Los Angeles Halloween party that's free and open to the public might seem to be a recipe for a crowd-control nightmare. But the throng of those who lined up early and in an orderly fashion for the Metromix, Indie 103.1, and Bud Light Lime "Drop Dead Gore-geous" party at the Natural History Museum seemed only to have good, clean, costumed fun on their minds.
Metromix's Jessie Rubin—herself in a Secret Service agent costume that looked very much like an event producer without a costume (all-black clothes with a headset)—oversaw the party, where the crowd stayed thick from 9 p.m. on Friday night into the early-morning hours.
Musical acts the Juan Maclean, Darker My Love, Treasure Fingers, and Holy Ghost performed in the exhibit halls, flanked by appropriately creepy dioramas of taxidermied creatures. Guests could get their tarot cards read for free or pose with friends in dueling photo booths: one in front of a standard step-and-repeat wall bearing sponsors' names, photographed by Shotgun Mary, and another, logo-free, theatrical-style setup by Jiro Photography.
