Temporary Architecture Now! (Taschen) explores the new wave of short-lived structures created for exhibitions and fairs, mobile marketing ploys, and fashion shows. From the pavilions for the Shanghai World Expo to Puma’s mobile retail units built from shipping containers to Laurent and Pascal Grasso’s pop-up restaurant assembled atop Paris’ Palais de Toyko, the book offers a look into the conception and execution of imposing, artful buildings that left a memorable imprint on the design world.
Architect Bjarke Ingels envisioned the spiral-shaped Danish Pavilion for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. The monolithic steel structure invited visitors to ascend the building via walkways or on the 300 bicycles provided.
In addition to creating sets for the Rolling Stones, Mark Fisher designed the stage for U2’s 360° World Tour, which ran from 2009 to 2011 and included a 180-ton portable superstructure that supported the concert’s technical equipment.
