As fast-food chains like KFC, Taco Bell, and even Starbucks make the move to trans-fat-free offerings, Windows Catering Company has also jumped onboard. The Alexandria-based caterer began researching trans-fat-free recipes last fall and introduced the menu in late March. (The company still offers menus with trans fat oils as well.) "Our new trans-fat-free menu caters to our corporate clients and anyone else who is interested in trans-fat-free foods," said Windows executive vice president Andrew Gerstel.
And the menu isn’t bland: Savory and sweet items include salmon Florentine, chili-lime calamari, hoisin barbecue pork wraps, and desserts such as the dark chocolate and raspberry bomb (a flourless cake), maple mascarpone-cheese-stuffed pears, pecan pie, and coconut carrot cake.
