The Boathouse in Central Park hosted a celebration of 20 years of Newman's Own, actor Paul Newman's philanthropic-minded food product line. Guests, including Newman's own wife, Joanne Woodward, and his business partner, A. E. Hotchner, were treated to a menu that included salad with Newman's Own parmesan and roasted garlic dressing and filet mignon and shrimp that used other Newman products.
For dessert, Bill Schutz of Creative Cakes created a cake in the shape of a bottle of Newman's Own olive oil and vinegar salad dressing using a colored buttercream frosting over a chocolate fudge cake, with marzipan vegetables decorating the cake's table.
Lenox Hill Florist used real vegetables for the edible centerpieces--baskets filled with lettuce, chili peppers, tomatoes, carrots, peppers, garlic, onions, scallions, rosemary and basil, with a single anthurium blossom nestled among the vegetables.
Capping the evening, Kevin Duncan from Seed Creative coordinated and produced surprise entertainment by Carole King and Bette Midler and toasts by stars including Susan Sarandon, Michael J. Fox and Harry Belafonte.
