Root beer barbecued pulled pork, mashed potato sundaes, and biscuits and gravy added to the down-home atmosphere at the American Folk Art Museum's American Antiques Show benefit preview party at Metropolitan Pavilion. Show executive director Alice Hoffman oversaw planning of the event, and hired The Catering Company to create an all-American setting with food and buffet table decor to complement the wares being showcased by antiques dealers from around the country.
Buffet stations with crafty themes like "Midwestern barn raising" were decorated with haystacks and gingham-lined egg baskets throughout the aisles, allowing the more than 700 guests to sample brown sugar baked beans and corn pudding while perusing the wares. Caterwaiters passed hors d'oeuvres of shrimp fritters and corn cakes on wooden trays decorated with all-American accents like quilt patches, pebbles and flags as fiddle, bass and sax players from Performing in Public Spaces played rousing folk music.
