Here’s a challenge: Produce an outdoor party to launch a line of chocolates on a 90-degree day without coating the venue in goopy, melting candy. But thanks to a temporary air conditioning system trucked in by CAT Entertainment Services to cool the Maritime Hotel’s North Cabanas space, Godiva’s fall collection melted in guests’ mouths, not in their fashionable laps.
Godiva PR head Erica Lapidus filled the space with Godiva signage and covered its banquettes with vibrant fabrics that matched the brand’s fall packaging hues. But the real focus of the party was the chocolate. With servers passing tray after tray packed with milks, darks, nuts, chews, cordials, and truffles, we recalled I Love Lucy’s famous chocolate factory scene. At one station, a Godiva staffer dipped strawberries in chocolate for guests to eat on the spot, while bartenders whipped up batches of impossibly rich Godiva "Truffletinis" (one part Godiva white chocolate liqueur, two parts Godiva chocolate liqueur, and one part Ciroc vodka in chocolate-drizzled martini glasses).
And to launch the new “Pop Chocolates”—chocolate on the outside with a filling that crackles when you eat it (remember Pop Rocks?)—Larry Abel of Larry Abel De-Signs used Flutter Fetti to surprise guests with a flurry of confetti as waiters distributed the chocolates.
