Rather than a typical restaurant or hotel ballroom, I’m looking for a unique space to do a series of intimate events. Can you share any examples?
How about renting a residential space? For sixth months, Pioneer rented an apartment in Chelsea, where the electronics brand held a variety of events, each of which targeted a different crowd: a wine tasting for luxury lifestyle journalists, a video-gaming party for pop culture editors, and an HDTV plasma screen Super Bowl-viewing party for tech writers. At each event, the press experienced state-of-the-art electronic technology in a relaxed, homey environment. (And of course, the on-site kitchen made catering for the small groups easy and efficient.) For seen-it-all-before beauty editors, cosmetics company Bourjois Paris produced a press event (pictured) at a model apartment in a chichi Philippe Starck-designed building on Wall Street called Downtown, which is scheduled for a 2006 opening. (The rest of the 42-story building is so raw, the group had to wear hard hats and sign limited-liability waivers on their way in.) The luxe apartment had a gorgeous kitchen, perfect for the company to demonstrate its unique method of oven-baking its eye shadows to the perfect consistency. The Parisian kitchen-theme event included a baking demo by a Tentation chef, followed by a pink eye shadow preparation by a Bourjois product developer. The new spot was definitely memorable, and the privileged access was worthy of more than a little office and cocktail party banter afterward.
