When pedestrians going about their business bumped into a big black-and-white tent on a stretch of West 26th Street, they may have found it an annoyance (or a curiosity). But to guests arriving at House & Garden’s April issue party, it certainly made a stylish statement. The magazine feted its New Tastemakers issue—its selection of 50 creative people in the fields of interior design, garden design, architecture, and product design—with a photography exhibition of their portraits at Lotus Space.
House & Garden director of special events Molly Hover enlisted Van Wyck & Van Wyck to give the gallery-like space a warm and alluring feel—and that started with the striped tent outdoors, which also covered sponsor GMC’s Yukon SUV on display. Instead of a traditional red carpet, Chinese sea grass covered the entrance, and the sea grass also made an appearance indoors as carpeting for the lounge area. The floor covering also featured a cheery band of turquoise fabric around its edges—a visual nod to the color of Jade Jagger’s dress on the issue’s cover.
Callahan Catering served mini tuna burgers and corn cakes with pancetta, as well as other bites, like spoons of caviar and crème fraiche that accompanied shots of chilled vodka, and also created a special mint-tini cocktail.
