Last night, Details celebrated its annual "Mavericks" issue—which features a selection of innovative thinkers in the realms of media, entertainment, design, and technology—at a cocktail party that took over a private Beverly Hills mansion soaring high above the lights of the city. Issue cover man Ryan Seacrest mingled amid the crowd, which featured an uncommonly high per-capita celebrity quotient and flowed without too much bottlenecking through the estate's indoor and outdoor spaces. An open-back Grey Goose-sponsored bar toward the backyard's west end seemed almost to levitate above the sweeping expanse of city views.
The event marked the debut of the catering arm of Michel Richard’s new eatery Citrus at Social Hollywood. Servers passed filet of beef on croustade, onion tarts with smoked salmon and crème fraîche, tuna tartare salad on spoons, and cucumber gazpacho sips served in eggshells."One of the coolest things was the egg sips, which are egg shells filled with soup; we drill a hole in the top, suck out the egg, clean, sterilize, and freeze the eggs before using them," said Social Hollywood special events director Melissa Darpino. "The one for this event was the cucumber gazpacho—a really great soup for spring and summer. I don't think any other caterer/chef in the country is doing this cool display, and it was a huge hit."
Before the cocktail party, the 22 mavericks and their guests dined at a seated meal, also from Citrus, which included mesclun salad with veggies from the Hollywood farmers market, whole roasted beef tenderloin with red wine jus, and halibut with tomato, fava bean, and bouillabaisse jus.
