Purina Promotes Gourmet Dog Food Line at Valentine's Party for Dog-Loving Influencers

Michael O'Connell
February 16, 2010

Just one year after introducing Chef Michael's gourmet dog food, Purina treated a crowd of 125 carefully selected canine enthusiasts and 60 of their four-legged companions to a Valentine's party on Friday at Gotham Hall that included the lowest tables you'll likely find at a dinner party all year.

When results from a survey revealed that 60 percent of dog-owners look for ways to incorporate their pets into their Valentine's Day festivities, Purina launched a promotional "My Doggie Valentine" photo contest for the fledgling Chef Michael's brand. To culminate the seasonal campaign, Purina then hosted an event for people who fit into that 60 percent.

"In addition to finding celebrities who'd enjoy a party like this," said Purina brand manager Julia Seimers of guests Elisabeth Rohm, Jennifer Esposito, and Michael Urie, "we identified people in the local area who shared the belief that their dog's meal time should express their affection. Some were personal connections and others we found through blogs, articles, and other people. People are looking for this, we just gave them the venue. "

Those people snacked on a buffet, while the guests of honor were fed at small, custom-built tables by handsomely attired waitstaff carrying plates on silver trays. The menu included the option of wet or dry.
