At the Culinary Pas de Deux, the American Ballet Theatre's distinctively funky annual fund-raiser, nearly 40 participating restaurants vied for spots on guests' plates on March 22, many of them with help from decorative vignettes alongside the different dishes.
Once again produced by Shai Tertner of Shiraz Events and held at Pier Sixty, the event brought chefs from local mainstays such as Gramercy Tavern, Paris Commune, and Spice Market. Tertner filled the cocktail area with large white orbs set atop different colored poles and Plexiglas boxes filled with oranges. When the different catering stations opened for dinner, guests moved to the darker-hued dining area, where eyes were intended to focus on the stage for A.B.T.'s performance.
Restaurants were enlisted to design their own catering stations, but they weren't the only vignettes on site. Tertner complemented his stark, spherical decor in the cocktail area with a silent auction table set against a backdrop of colorfully painted tree branches.
