A year after chef Jason Hicks and his partner, Yves Jadot, opened the British-style Peacock restaurant in midtown, Hicks continues to evolve the establishment’s traditional British cuisine using seasonal ingredients from local farms. As is the custom in the United Kingdom, the Peacock is currently offering a holiday fare menu in December, which is intended for bosses who want to treat their employees to a special lunch.
The season promises to be busy as the festivities continue with the Peacock’s Holiday Masquerade Ball, which will include decadent dining, drinking, dancing, and performance pieces. The event, which is from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. on December 19, is black-tie. Masks are mandatory. Tickets are all-inclusive and available to purchase for $185 per person. The Peacock will also close out 2014 with a special three-course New Year's dinner at a fixed price that includes two seats.
In September, the Peacock converted the two front rooms, formerly the Library and the Library Bar, into the Raines Law Room, making it the second outpost of the stylish Flatiron district speakeasy, this one catering to the Midtown post-work crowd. It is a good place to enjoy a drink before heading to one of two dining rooms the Peacock offers. The Raines Law Room is also another option when looking for an intimate and chic venue. The room accommodates approximately 40 to 50 guests.
When Hicks and Jadot decided to open the Peacock in the old Williams College Club, they were inspired by England's grand houses and private clubs. They preserved the space's original architectural charm by refinishing the oak parquet floors, mahogany paneling, and Carrara marble fireplaces. By layering custom designed upholstery (a mix of bohemian and historical fabrics), the two added a touch of playfulness to the more traditional elements. There is contemporary artwork by Canadian artist Bradley Wood and wall coverings from Cole & Son in the dining rooms to continue the aesthetic of an eclectic English parlor.
The Peacock and the restaurant’s Raines Law Room are both now available for event booking. The Peacock is located at 24 East 39th St., between Park & Madison Avenues. For more information or to book an event, call 646.837.6776, email [email protected], or visit thepeacocknyc.com.
