1. CONDOM CABS: Trojan has deemed February National Condom Month and will celebrate in New York with a fleet of three taxis providing free rides and quizzing riders about sexual health. Riders will know these are not typical cabs: They will be topped with giant condoms and branded with the Trojan Safe Rides logo. AdAge: "Trojan has obtained all necessary medallions and city clearances… The brand is still smarting, after all, from its last big New York City promotion, a vibrator giveaway from hot-dog-style carts in August that drew big crowds but was temporarily suspended by the city for lack of necessary permits." http://bit.ly/14Oa68I
2. HAUTE CULTURE: The 21-year-old fashion designer Mathieu Mirano sent out a memorable invitation to his Fashion Week show: a petri dish with bacteria. The unusual invitation was designed by Alpine Creative Group to get attention for the young designer, who also sent the invites to science publications. Wall Street Journal: "These editors get hundreds if not thousands of invites," he said. "If you get one that's different and cool, you're going to pay attention." http://on.wsj.com/VLM88n
Would the petri dish have made BizBash contributing editor Jim Shi's list of his favorite fashion invites? http://bit.ly/12ry5rg
3. CANDY LAND: Channeling her inner Willy Wonka—or perhaps Dylan Lauren—fashion designer Cynthia Rowley opened a candy store within her Upper East Side boutique. New York Times: "True to its name, CuRious will sell unusual wares. Cotton candy, whipped up by girls in tight black dresses with white lacy collars, comes in flavors like black licorice, watermelon mint, lavender, and Champagne. There will be peanut butter and jelly bars and toffee crisps by a Brooklyn-based chocolatier, as well as cake servers and plates made entirely of candy. Pile them up with fruit, then break off the serving dish and eat that too—perhaps with an edible fork and knife." http://nyti.ms/6ZXcsX
