Although no one wanted to be the first to admit it, most of the guests at a cocktail party launching Colin Cowie's new home line with J.C. Penney showed up for the same reason: to sneak a peek at the entertaining guru's Greenwich Village apartment. J.C. Penney corporate marketing exec Stephanie Brown and Cowie debuted the new line of dishware, barware and accessories at a party, with catering by Robbins Wolf and Martin Herold, a chef and friend of Cowie's who flew in from Los Angeles for the occasion. Caterwaiters served hors d'oeuvres on clear trays decorated with orchids, complementing the clear tables and chairs that displayed some of the products from the tabletop collections. Other products—in black and white or Indian-inspired colors—were displayed around Cowie's living room, which featured a grand piano, photographs of women with graphic black and white stripes and doors opening onto a South-facing terrace.
